Bridgetown, Barbados, West Indies January 13, 2007

On this Island we went for a jeep ride through forests containing giant palms, mahogany & breadfruit trees. Sugar cane fields are surrounded by chattle houses. These are 4 walls & a roof all on a temporary foundation (sometimes they belonged to a slave) which could be moved and reassembled in one day. The island is 80% coral & limestone and the remainder is sandstone. The coast line has coral formations 30-50 feet tall & are eroded into mushroom states.(see photo)
There are 2 world class golf courses here. The homes sell for millions and these areas are gated. Tiger Woods was married there & our driver said Oprah owns one of the homes.

Bridgetown was a British Colony & has been independant since the 1960’s. It will host the 2007 World Cup in Cricket in March. Many roads are being widened and the Roundhouse Stadium is being rebuilt to hold 70,000 people! (Hard to believe all will be ready-but what do we know!)
