We tendered to the shore where the bus took us on excursion to two tiny typically quaint quiet villages high in the nearby woody mountainous hills. These had served for scenes in the Godfather films where the village of Corlioni was to be depicted. The bar (in the film) was proudly shown to us-nothing has changed! We then walked round in the lovely old Roman Greek village now the resort town of Taoramina, a favorite of D.H. Lawrence and Goethe. It clings to the rocky cliffs with the Teatro Greco, dating to the 3rd century B.C. overlooking Naxos bay and the Tyrrhenian coast, which was settled earlier in 1500 B.C., the Bronze Age. Nearby, the magnificent mount Aetna has a crispy clear snowcap on it now.
